Empowering Women in Tech: Liza Rodewald’s Journey from Engineer to CEO

As a female-founded company, Instant Teams is incredibly passionate about promoting and supporting women in the workplace – especially those in tech.

Our CEO and Founder, Liza Rodewald, is a 4x entrepreneur and software engineer with more than 20 years of technical experience and has built multimillion-dollar enterprise software for the government and healthcare industry. She spent years developing software for other companies before getting to power her own company.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am of the team and this moment where I’ve been able to build software for my company instead of for someone else. It’s an amazing feeling,” says Liza. “As a woman in tech, it’s always been a passion of mine to get other women in the industry that I love.”

From Engineer to CEO

Liza previously ran the first military spouse hackathon in 2017 and has served as a mentor for Operation Code, the largest community of military veterans, service members, and spouses committed to becoming software developers with the help of mentors, scholarships, and our tech partners.

Liza is speaking at the AnitaB.org flagship event, the Grace Hopper Celebration, this September. She’s giving a talk titled “From Engineer to CEO.” The event was created in 1994 to highlight women’s research and career interests in computing and was inspired by the legacy of Admiral Grace Murray Hopper.

“There’s such a sense of camaraderie among women in tech,” says Liza. “I’ve learned so much from my peers and love the chance to listen to other leaders and connect in person. It’s an honor to speak at the Grace Hopper Celebration.” (Liza and Grace share the same birthday!)

If you’re not familiar with Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, she was a pioneering computer programmer, professor, naval officer, and winner of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Technology, America’s highest award in technology. Her contributions to computer programming were truly groundbreaking.

Fun fact: Grace Hopper was also the first person to refer to a problem in a computer program as a “bug” after she literally found a bug in her computer!
