No Luck Required Here. All Skills.

Growing your career or finding a new job is overwhelming. We get it. Sometimes it feels like you need to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow to make any progress.

At Instant Teams, we’re all about skills and skills-based hiring. (Fun fact: did you know our company name used to be “Hire Mad Skills”?)

Focusing on skills is the best way for employers to find the most talented people. It’s also a way for career seekers (you!) to make their own luck.

Why skills matter

For military spouses, it’s not always easy to grow (and keep!) your career. Military spouses still report higher unemployment rates than their civilian peers. It’s frustrating! Frequent moves, lack of child care, and bases in the middle of nowhere certainly don’t help. Focusing on skills helps career seekers stay competitive in a tough job market. You can’t always control your career progression or resume gaps, but you can control how you learn and enhance skills.

And, as a bonus, verifying your skills through assessments or certifications helps employers know you’re the real deal. (Like we said: no luck needed!)

How to upskill

Upskilling doesn’t have to be overwhelming or expensive. Check out LinkedIn Learning, Hubspot, or Coursera

Through our new app, Twelve Million Plus, military spouses can also use our partnership with Grow with Google. You can explore Google Career Certificates in fields like Digital Marketing & E-commerce, IT Support, Data Analytics, Project Management, and more.

We recommend making a plan or starting a list of the skills you want to improve. If you’re looking for more inspiration, check out this list of in-demand skills.

What’s next?

Once you’ve got your new skills, don’t forget to update your resume and LinkedIn profile! Let employers know you’ve got (mad) skills. You can also look for job openings through your Instant Teams account or our weekly “Job Party Live” events on Twelve Million Plus.

Good luck! (Not that you’ll need it!)
